“Israeli” returns to print but with smaller circulation

The free newspaper did not print an addition during a two-week holiday vacation.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that free newspaper “Israeli” resumed distribution yesterday after a two-week holiday vacation, but at only half the circulation of last month. Circulation is now reportedly less than 20,000 a day, which are mainly distributed at railway and Egged bus stations. The paper’s daily circulation was over 40,000 in August.

“Globes” reported two weeks ago that “Israeli” had decided to halt printing as part of a general vacation for employees. The paper said at the time that management and workers decided to extend the vacation. A similar decision had been taken two week before that, but Israel Railways and Egged Israel Transport Cooperative Society Ltd. asked paper owner Shlomo Ben-Tzvi to continue printing during the Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year) holiday.

Ben-Tzvi agreed to the request and planned a three-day vacation during the week-long Sukkot holiday, but then reverted to his original plan for a two-week vacation.

“Israeli” was launched in January 2006, and reached a circulation of 170,000 during its first few months. However, circulation subsequently plummeted to 40,000.
