Avi Gabai formally appointed Bezeq CEO

Bezeq chairman Shlomo Rodav will continue to be responsible for the subsidiaries.

Bezeq The Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) acting CEO Avi Gabai has been formally appointed to the post. He will be responsible for the company's wireline business.

Bezeq notified the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) that chairman Shlomo Rodav will continue to be responsible for the company's subsidiaries: satellite broadcaster YES, cellular operator Pele-Phone Communications Ltd., and ISP and international calls operator Bezeq International Ltd. Today's financial report is the first for which Rodav is responsible.

The appointments bring to a close the management changeover at Bezeq following the stock options and bonuses scandals under former CEO Yacov Gelbard. After Gelbard resigned, deputy CEO Ika Abarbanel served as acting CEO for a brief time. Gabai, then CEO of Bezeq International, was later appointed as acting CEO and responsible for the company's wireline business.

Shortly afterwards, Bezeq chairman Dov Weissglass also left the company over the stock options scandal and quiet suggestion by the Israel Securities Authority that he depart. Subsequent negotiations with former Bank Hapoalim chairman Shlomo Nehama to buy out Moshe Arkin's stake in Ap-Sab-Ar Holdings Ltd. (the Apax Partners-Saban Capital Group Inc.-Arkin consortium that controls Bezeq) and serve as chairman failed to reach a deal. Rodav was then appointed chairman.

Last week, Bezeq announced that it had finalized the appointment of Yitzhak Benvenisti as CEO of Bezeq International.
