Japanese business leaders to visit Israel

The private trip may be utilized to introduce the executives to Israeli business opportunities.

A large delegation of Japanese business and political leaders will arrive in Israel on Friday for a private visit. The executives are from food, infrastructures, and the electronics industries.

Delegation members include East Japan Railway Company chairman Masatake Matsuda, Toshiba executive VP Tsuyoshi Kimura, Kikkoman Corporation owner Hyozaemon Takanashi, Taisei Corporation executive VP Kunihiko Nambu, Hitachi Medical chairman and CEO Yoshiro Kuwata, and Marubeni Corporation special adviser power plants and infrastructure Yuichi Ishimaru.

Harel Hertz Investment House Ltd. managing director Eran Harel said that the visit was the result of the company's partnership with the Japanese companies in Kioi-Kan, an organization that Matsuda founded in 2001. "Kioi-Kan meets once a month to discuss major issues relating to the Japanese economy," he said.

Harel added that he was invited to join Kioi-Kan in 2004 because of his business ties with some of its members. He hopes that the delegation will become business ambassadors in Japan and that the companies would establish ties with Israel.

The delegation will meet President Shimon Peres, Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Livni and business leaders, and visit the Weizmann Institute of Science, the Dead Sea, and the Ramat Gan Diamond Exchange.
