Walk Care wins Promising Life Sciences Start-up award

The company has developed an affordable wheelchair that enables patients to stand up.

Walk Care Ltd. has won the first Promising Life Sciences Start-up award. The award is organized by the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute, Israel Life Sciences Industry (ILSI), and Shizim Ltd. subsidiary Life Science Accelerator Israel (LSA). Misgav Technology Center portfolio company Lavi Cardiatech Ltd., based at MTC won second prize, and Arbel Medical Ltd. won third prize.

Shizim is a shareholder in Walk Care. However, Shizim, one of the organizers of the competition, said that Walk Care's win was coincidental, because the judges were independent.

Walk Care has developed an innovative wheelchair, which can raise the person to a full standing position and assist in walking. The wheelchair's price is affordable for individuals. The company says that medical research has found that the ability to stand up confers on patients many physiological and psychological advantages. The company's wheelchair is aimed at both paralytics and people undergoing physiotherapy to walk again, such as after a stroke or implant. The wheelchair will be sold to individuals, clinics, and rehabilitation centers.
