Babylon signs international deal with Google

The translation and dictionary software company's shares jump in heavy trading.

Translation software developer Babylon Ltd. (TASE:BBYL) has signed an international deal with Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG). The company said that the contract establishes the collaboration between the companies in online searches and advertising.

Babylon provided no information about the size of the contract, except that its management "predicts that the contract will make a substantial contribution to the company".

Babylon offers text translation in 17 languages and Wikipedia results in 13 languages. Its translation and dictionary software offers results from a database of 1,300 sources in 75 languages, including 25 professional dictionaries in 14 languages.

In mid-December, a limited partnership, with a company headed by Noam Lanir as its general partner, acquired the controlling interest in Babylon.

Babylon rose 19% by late afternoon in heavy trading.
