Chief Scientist supports second biotech incubator

Eli Opper urges a new incubator to be set up near a hospital or drug company in the Galilee.

Chief Scientist Dr. Eli Opper is continuing to support the establishment of a second biotechnology incubator. He told "Globes" that the new incubator would operate on the same principles and terms as the Bioline Innovations incubator in Jerusalem, owned by BiolineRX Ltd. (TASE:BLRX). In other words, incubator projects will receive three years of funding amounting up to NIS 2.7 million per year, for up to 80% of their budgets.

Opper added that the new incubator would be set up either in the Negev or the Galilee. The present preference is for the Galilee because Ben Gurion University in Negev has set up its own biotechnology center. He said that a biotechnology center should be established in the proximity of a hospital or large pharmaceutical company.
