Polycom Israel set for layoffs this week

The latest layoffs follow the closure of Polycom's Yokne'am center six months ago.

Polycom Israel Ltd. is expected to announce during the week that dozens of employees are being laid off. Polycom Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM) has an R&D center in Petach Tikva, which employs about 200 people. The company fired 15 employees six months ago when it closed its center in Yokne'am, which it had been operating since 2002 when it acquired the start-up MeetU, which developed web-based teleconferencing.

Polycom Israel began operating in 2000 with the acquisition of Accord Networks for $340 million and Polycom's R&D Center in Petach Tikvah is based on this.

With about 2,300 employees worldwide, Polycom develops and markets unified communications solutions, which integrate high definition video, wired and wireless voice and content solutions.
