Clalit Health Services to fire hundreds, close hospitals

Clalit will close the Herzfeld Geriatric Hospital and the Hasharon Hospital.

Clalit Health Services today announced the elimination of 500 jobs and the closing of two hospitals as part of the agreement signed with the Ministry of Finance last week. In the agreement, the ministry agreed to inject NIS 200 million into the health fund in exchange for a streamlining plan and the retirement of hundreds of longtime employees.

Clalit will close the Herzfeld Geriatric Hospital in Gedera, transferring some of its beds to Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot. It will also close the Hasharon Hospital in Petah Tikva, transferring some of its units to Rabin Medical Center Beilinson Hospital in the city. Clalit decided on this measure six years ago.

"Globes" has obtained a copy of the full agreement between Clalit and the Ministry of Finance, and it includes several other far-reaching measures. The number of jobs to be cut is actually 790, not 500, the number of deputies at hospitals will be reduced, and Clalit will close its Tel Aviv-Jaffa district office. The government will inject NIS 230 million into the health fund over three years.
