Tue: Banks boost TASE

Bank Leumi had the biggest gain among Tel Aviv 25 shares, while Teva rose on the day's biggest turnover.

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) rose today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index rose 0.78% to 1,206.19 points, the Tel Aviv 100 Index rose 0.84% to 1,082.95 points, and the BlueTech 50 Index rose 0.87% to 301.22 points. Turnover was NIS 1.00 billion.

The TASE rose today, bucking mixed sessions on European markets and at the opening on Wall Street.

In the foreign currency market, the Bank of Israel again intervened in the foreign currency market to stem the strengthening of the shekel. It set the shekel-dollar representative exchange rate at NIS 3.594/$, up 0.06% on yesterday's rate, and set the shekel-euro representative exchange rate at NIS 4.696/€, down 0.10%.

In the bond market, long-term Shahar unlinked shekel government bonds were unchanged, and long term Galil CPI-linked government ranged between losses of 0.1% and gains of 0.5%. The corporate bond benchmark Tel-Bond 20 Index rose 0.29%.

In the stock market, the Banking Index rose 1.8%, led by a 2.9% rise by Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) for the biggest gain among Tel Aviv 25 shares, and Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI) rose 1%.

Mobile carrier Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) continued its rally with a 2.5%, but Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) fell by 0.1%. Both carriers have risen by more than 10% in the past month, and the Communications Index has climbed 5%. Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) fell 1.5%.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NYSE: TEVA; TASE: TEVA) rose 0.9% on the day's biggest turnover of NIS 85 million.

On the Tel Aviv 100 Index, Babylon Ltd. (TASE:BBYL) corrected upwards 1.7%. Brack Capital Properties NV (TASE: BCNV) rose 6.6%, after announcing that it will buy 95% of a German income-producing property at a value of NIS 305 million. Africa-Israel Investments Ltd. (TASE:AFIL) and subsidiary Africa-Israel Properties Ltd. (TASE: AFPR) rose 5.7% and 3.5%, respectively, after IBI Investment House Ltd. initiated coverage of them.

Mid-CapBrainsway Ltd. (TASE:BRIN) rose 8.3%, after announcing that it will begin US sales next week.

Bonds of IDB Holding Corp. Ltd. (TASE:IDBH) and subsidiary IDB Development Corporation rose by up 6.2% as the court hears the petition to compel a debt settlement on the latter.
