Wed: Banks downward correction chills market

Hapoalim and Leumi lost ground, but Mellanox bucked the market.

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) fell today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index fell 0.45% to 1,226.31 points, the Tel Aviv 100 Index fell 0.60% to 1,103.87 points, and the BlueTech 50 Index fell 0.57% to 307.78 points. Turnover was NIS 927.2 million.

The TASE indices fell today, in line with losses on European markets and at the opening on Wall Street.

In the foreign currency market, the Bank of Israel set the shekel-dollar representative exchange rate at NIS 3.671/$, down 0.14% on yesterday's rate, and set the shekel-euro representative exchange rate at NIS 4.796/€, down 0.27%.

In the bond market, long-term Shahar unlinked shekel government bonds rose by to 0.4% and long term Galil CPI-linked government ranged between losses of 0.1% and gains of 0.1%. The corporate bond benchmark Tel-Bond 20 Index rose 0.13%

In the stock market, Oil Refineries Ltd. (TASE:ORL) fell 2.7%, for the biggest loss among Tel Aviv 25 shares, to NIS 1.60. Clal Finance cut its recommendation for the share from "Market perform" to "Underperform" and cut the target price to NIS 1.50. Azrieli Group Ltd. (TASE: AZRG) fell 0.4% to NIS 105.60. Union Bank raised its target price from NIS 96 to NIS 105, and changed its recommendation from "Market perform" to "Hold". Its real estate peer on the index, Gazit-Globe Ltd. (NYSE: GZT; TASE: GZT), had the biggest gain among Tel Aviv 25 shares.

Mellanox Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq:MLNX; TASE:MLNX) corrected upwards 0.7%. NICE Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: NICE; TASE: NICE) rose by the same amount, but EZchip Semiconductor Ltd. (Nasdaq: EZCH; TASE:EZCH) was unchanged.

Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) fell 0.2% on the day's biggest turnover of NIS 64 million.

Bank Hapoalim (TASE: POLI) corrected downward 0.5% and Bank Leumi (TASE: LUMI) corrected downward 1%, dragging the Banking Index down 0.7%.

On the Tel Aviv 100 Index, Pluristem Therapeutics Ltd. (Nasdaq:PSTI; DAX: PJT: PLTR) fell 11.2% after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday suspended a clinical trial of the company's placental stem cell product. Small-cap ET View Medical Ltd. (TASE: ETVW) rose 6.4% after signing a US distribution agreement for its artificial respirator.
