Tue: Cellcom fails to lift flat market

Cellcom rose strongly despite reporting lower profits but Opko fell after reporting widening losses.

The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) fell today. The Tel Aviv 25 Index fell 0.19% to 1,309.07 points, the Tel Aviv 100 Index fell 0.11% to 1,188.54 points, but the BlueTech 50 Index rose 0.34% to 332.97 points. Turnover was NIS 1.14 billion.

The TASE fell slightly today, in line with losses at the opening on Wall Street and on European markets.

In the foreign currency market, the Bank of Israel set the shekel-dollar representative exchange rate at NIS 3.534/$, down 0.028% on yesterday's rate, and set the shekel-euro representative exchange rate at NIS 4.734/€, down 0.03%.

In the bond market, long-term Shahar unlinked shekel government bonds and long term Galil CPI-linked government rose. The corporate bond benchmark Tel-Bond 20 Index rose 0.09%.

In the stock market, Opko Health Inc. (NYSE: OPK; TASE: OPK) fell 3.46% after reporting widening losses in its third quarter results.

Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) rose 2.33% despite reporting that it profits more than halved in the third quarter while mobile telecom rival Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) rose 3.8% but Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) slipped 1.57%.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NYSE: TEVA; TASE: TEVA) rose 1.3% on the day's largest trading volume, after reaching an agreement over taxes on trapped profits with the Israel Tax Authority but Israel Chemicals Ltd. (TASE: ICL) fell 1.63% despite reaching its own agreement on the issue.

Oil Refineries Ltd. (TASE:ORL) rose 6.4% for the biggest gain on the Tel Aviv 25 Index, correcting some of its recent declines.

On the Tel Aviv 100 Index Babylon Ltd. (TASE:BBYL) rose a further 7% after rising 13% yesterday on the news that Yahoo! would not be cancelling its agreement with the on-line translation provider.
