Land to be marketed before IDF vacates bases

Tender winners will be allowed to apply for building permits before the IDF vacates bases.

Only yesterday an agreement was signed for earlier than planned vacating of IDF bases in central Israel and Haifa. Today the Israel Land Authority hastened to announce that in 2014 it will market most of the IDF bases scheduled to be vacated.

One source said, "The moment that planning of the land is completed and there is an approved plan we will market the land. So the bid winners can meanwhile work on building permits before the evacuation date."

In other words those companies that win bids for land on these bases will not be able to actually build until a later stage. Furthermore, while land is still occupied by the IDF or Ministry of Defense, it will be difficult for developers and contractors who win tenders to conduct the necessary checks in order to obtain building permits.

The Israel Land Authority head Benzi Lieberman has decided that in the light of bringing forward the vacation of bases, the IDF itself will plan the neighborhoods to be built, in the bases to be vacated, rather than the Israel Land Authority itself, as is the normal practice.
