Histadrut threatens to escalate strike

Negotiations over a cost of living adjustment agreement were renewed today between the Histadrut (General Federation of Labor in Israel) and employer organizations.

Renewed negotiations over a cost of living adjustment agreement will take place between the Histadrut (General Federation of Labor in Israel) and employer organizations. Renewed negotiations were agreed on today in talks between Histadrut Trade Union division head Shlomo Shani, Histadrut chairman Amir Perez and Manufacturers Association president Oded Tyrah.

The Histadrut emphasized that the current strike action would continue, meanwhile. The labor union intends to expand the scope of its strike action and shut down all transport activity as of Tuesday, including the ports, railway and aviation authorities. Action will be taken by that date, should the liaison committees of the various economic organizations not begin negotiations with the labor unions over the cost of living adjustment agreement.

The Union of Local Authorities strike is also expected to escalate on Tuesday, if negotiations are not opened over the Histadrut clerks union's demand to cancel the planned tax of employer write-downs on provident funds.
