2003 high-tech exports total $10.68b

High-tech sales totaled $12.98 billion. Medical equipment exports grew 11%.

After a 20% in two years, Israel’s electronics and software industries are showing signs of recovery, Israel Association of Electronics and Information Industries director general Uri Har said. He added that sales and exports for 2003 remained at 2002 levels, while sales have grown in recent months. Har cited these figures yesterday, ahead of his organization’s annual conference.

Sales by the high-tech industry totaled $12.98 billion in 2003. Medical equipment exports grew 11% to $897 million, and security equipment exports 2.8% to $1.59 billion. After 1,100 lay-offs earlier this year, 2% of the total workforce in the sector, 300 new employees have been hired in recent months, paralleling the growth in sales

High-tech exports totaled $10.68 billion in 2003, the same as in 2002, and industrial equipment exports were up 1.1% to $1.48 billion.

Har also said that exports in the telecommunications industry, where the global recession was most severe, had fallen 7.1% to $2.28 billion. High-tech output rose from $236,000 per employee in 2002 to $241,000 per employee in 2003.
