2003 exports to US down 2%

High-tech exports to the US fell 8% to $2.8 billion in 2003, while food exports to the US rose 25%.

The Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute reported today that exports to the US fell in 2003 for the third consecutive year. Exports to the US, excluding diamonds, declined 2% to $5.9 billion in 2003.

Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute director Yechiel Assia predicts that industrial exports to the US will rise 3-4% to $6.1 billion in 2004, due to economic recovery in the US and increased activity by the Export Institute.

High-tech exports to the US fell 8% to $2.8 billion in 2003, while food exports to the US rose 25%, rubber and plastics exports were up 12% to $351 million, and chemical exports jumped 18% to $797 million.

Exports of drugs dipped 11% to $751 million; textile and clothing exports sank 8% to $502 million; machinery and equipment exports dropped 4.5% to $263 million; wood, furniture, paper, and printing exports slid 1% to $81 million; and mining products and mineral exports were off 8% to $53 million.
