Mercury Interactive buys mercury.com domain name for $1.1m

Mercury Interactive paid $700,000 in cash, plus $400,000 in equipment, services, and technical support.

Mercury Interactive Corporation (Nasdaq: MERQ), a developer of business technology optimization, which has a market cap of $4 billion, has bought the mercury.com domain name for $1.1 million.

Mercury Interactive paid $700,000 in cash, plus $400,000 in equipment, services, and technical support.

The amount paid by Mercury Interactive is reminiscent of the boom time in domain names in 1999 and early 2000, when domain names were bought for millions of dollars. The basic cost of a domain name is about $90.
