Greek island file against Ehud Olmert closed

Corruption charges against the former Jerusalem mayor could not be proved.

Attorney General Menachem Mazouz closed the file against Minister of Industry Trade and Labor Ehud Olmert in the Greek island affair today. Mazouz said it was impossible to overcome the difficulties in proving the factual basis of the case through the higher proof of state of mind, so there was no reasonable chance of a conviction.

While mayor of Jerusalem, Olmert was suspected of hosting Greek businessmen for a dinner paid by David Appel, allegedly to promote Appel's business interests in Greece. In exchange, Appel was suspected of financing Olmert's expenses in the Likud primaries.
