There were 1.9 million railway passengers in Israel in May 2004, 48% more than in May 2003, according to figures published today by Israel Railways.
There were nine million railway passengers in January-May 2004, 19% more than in the corresponding period last year. Growth was particularly prominent on the Tel Aviv-Rosh HaAyin-Kfar Sava line, where passenger traffic was soared 88% to 138,000.
The number of passengers on the Haifa-Nahariya line grew 44% to 157,000, and traffic on the Tel Aviv-Haifa line from 38%, from 303,000 in May 2003 to 418,000 in May 2004.
Acting Israel Railways general manager Yosef Mor said, “The steady rise in passenger traffic is a result of improved passenger service.” He added that Israel Railways had completed infrastructure work on the lines to Ashdod and to Ben Gurion Airport in May.
