Thousands of guards lose jobs

The number of security guards has fallen by 8.5% in recent months, because of the calmer security situation.

Hebrew daily “Yediot Ahronot” reports that the improved security situation has contributed to economic growth in general, but that security guards are paying the price. The relative security calm in Israel in recent months has reduced the number of security guards by 8.5%, from 47,000 to 43,000, according to the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Labor planning and economy division.

Planning and economy division director Benny Pfeffermann said the security calm has caused a drop in demand for security guards and lay-offs in the sector. If the security calm persists, 15,000 security guards are projected to lose their jobs.
