Israel-Jordan economic conference within a month

Following a meeting with Minister of Industry Trade and Labor Ehud Olmert, Jordanian Foreign Minister Hani al-Mulki: Broaden regional cooperation to include Egypt and the Palestinian Authority.

At a meeting in Jerusalem today, Minister of Industry Trade and Labor Ehud Olmert and Jordanian Foreign Minister Hani al-Mulki agreed to convene a bilateral economic conference within a month. They also agreed to promote joint tourism and infrastructure projects.

Al-Mulki said the agreement was another important step in improving bilateral economic relations, and would soon allow joint Israeli-Jordanian manufacturing, encourage additional economic cooperation, and enable the expansion of trade by other industrial sectors.

Al-Mulki also called for greater regional cooperation, to include Egypt and the Palestinian Authority in the future.

Israeli exports to Jordan totaled $123 million in 2004, 42% more than in 2003. One third of exports comprised textiles for Qualified Industrial Zones (QIZs), and a quarter were high-tech goods.
