3,500 housing units approved between Jerusalem and Maale Adumim

The goal is to create a unified geographic entity over the Green Line.

The Civil Administration settlement subcommittee last week approved two plans to establish residential neighborhoods that would connect Jerusalem with Maale Adumin. The first plan, for 1,250 housing units, includes transferring the Israel Police District Judea and Samaria headquarters. The second plan is for 2,250 housing units, plus a hostel.

In all, the plans call for 3,500 housing units to be built over the Green Line. The Civil Administration's decision is intended to create a unified geographic entity between Jerusalem and Maale Adumim, whose goal would be to determine Israel's future permanent borders.

The Ministry of Housing and Construction stated that it had not yet received instructions regarding the new neighborhoods. The Ministry of the Environment stated that it had submitted to the Ministry of Housing guidelines for an environmental impact study that would examine various aspects of air, radiation and noise pollution.
