Prime Minister Ariel Sharon opposes destroying the homes, while Minister of Finance Benjamin Netanyahu is in favor.
A majority is emerging in the cabinet against destruction of Jewish homes to be evacuated in the Gaza Strip and northern Samaria. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon summoned the cabinet today for a special discussion on the issue. A final decision on the fate of the homes will probably be taken at the next cabinet meeting.
Sharon himself expressed support for not destroying the evacuated communities. Minister of Finance Benjamin Netanyahu, on the other hand, supports destroying the homes, and expressed concern that leaving them whole would trigger a Palestinian victory celebration.
Vice Premier Shimon Peres and Minister of Defense Shaul Mofaz support Sharon’s position against destroying the houses.
