Bulgaria renews helicopter upgrade talks with Elbit

"Defense News": The move follows a court ruling on Elbit Systems' petition after the tender it won was cancelled.

New NATO member Bulgaria has renewed negotiations with Elbit Systems (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) on a deal for the upgrade of Russian Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters in service with the Bulgarian army, according to the European website of "Defense News".

A Bulgarian government spokesman said in a statement that the Ministry of Defense of Bulgaria had returned to talks with Elbit following a ruling by a Bulgarian court on a petition by Elbit.

In March, the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense informed Elbit that its participation in the tender it won in December had been cancelled.

In the past, the upgrade project was estimated to be worth some $60 million, but Defense News cites market sources as estimating the value of the contract at about $70 million.
