Network infrastructure developer ECI Telecom Ltd. (Nasdaq: ECIL) will build a high-speed telecommunications network in Latvia.
Petah Tikva-based ECI Telecom said it has been selected by Lattelecom, the incumbent operator in Republic of Latvia, to build a high-speed FTTH network.
As part of the project, Lattelecom will first launch commercial services in the capital-city Riga, where customers will enjoy access speeds of 100 megabits per second, increasing to up to 500 Mbit/s by year end. It will then look to expand the service nationwide.
Latvia has an estimated 900,000 households, and a total population of about 2.3 million.
ECI Telecom is collaborating with its local partner DAN Communications in this deployment as prime contractor. As part of the agreement, ECI will be providing Lattelecom with ongoing technical support and professional services together with its partner Dan Communications.
ECI Telecom will enable Lattelecom to provide customers with triple play capabilities, such as high-speed Internet and HD IPTV, as well as additional bandwidth-intensive services. ECI’s Hi-FOCuS Multiservice Access Node (MSAN) with Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) capabilities will be used to build the state-of-the-art network.
ECI Telecom VP of EMEA North Yoav Gazelle said, “This win is of significant importance to us as it is our maiden FTTH network deployment in the country, and strategically showcases our global expertise in laying the foundation to support next generation broadband services.”
