Modu Inc. CEO Dov Moran plans to market the modu 1 handset in Brazil through mobile operator Claro Internacional SA. "The launch of the handset in Brazil is an important milestone in Modu's growth track. This the first of several launches planned in Latin America," said Moran.
Modu will launch its first generation Modu handset, which has a 2 gigabyte memory. The handset can play music, and send and receive calls and SMS, but has no Internet access. Modu did not disclose the price of the handset.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the Modu is the world’s lightest fully-functional phone. The handset comprises several components: the Modu itself, which is the brain; and the jacket, which allows buyers to customize the handset from a smart-phone to a music player. The Modu also includes mates, devices to which the Modu can be connected. Examples include a picture frame that can receive pictures from the Modu, and a car system that can play music stored in the Modu.
