The IED project will test carrying telecommunications signals over Israel Electric Corporation's infrastructure.
ECI Telecom Ltd. and Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE; Euronext: ALU) will participate in the Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) (TASE: ELEC.B22) pilot to transmit telecommunications via the utility's fiber optic network in Kiryat Shemona. The two companies will supply their gigabit passive optical network (GPON) solutions for the pilot and will install them at the participating households and operators.
IEC CEO Amos Lasker said that he will inaugurate the pilot in June, just before the 2010 World Cup, which will enable participating households to watch the games in HD and 3D.
