Specialty foundry TowerJazz (Nasdaq: TSEM; TASE: TSEM) has won design wins potentially worth $50-100 million for its next-generation 130-nanometer processor for radio frequency (RF) applications, says TowerJazz SVP and general manager RF and High Performance Analog Business Group Dr. Marco Racanelli.
The company today unveiled its 130nm SiGe BiCMOS technology (SBL13) for high volume consumer RF application, which includes SiGe bipolar performance with a mature 130nm CMOS copper backend to achieve high performance RF with more integrated digital logic. The new processor targets wireless RF and digital TV tuner applications, including WAN and cell phone transceivers, which have a combined market worth more than $1 billion.
TowerJazz has two fabs at Migdal Ha'Emek in Israel. Fab 1 produces processors with 1 through 0.35 micron technology, and Fab 2 produces processors with 0.13, 0.16, and 0.18 micron technology. The company's Jazz Semiconductor's Fab is in California, and it has partnership agreements with Chinese foundries Shanghai Hua Hong NEC Electronics Company Ltd. and Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (ASMC) (HKSE: 3355).
TowerJazz's share closed at $1.36 on Nasdaq on Friday, giving a market cap of $274 million. The share rose 7.9% by early afternoon on the TASE to NIS 7.06.
