TASC invests in phone radiation monitor co TawKon

TASC Strategic Consulting has made its first investment outside the consulting business.

TASC Strategic Consulting Ltd. has made its first investment outside the consulting business, leading an investment in Israeli phone radiation monitor start-up TawKon Ltd. The company did not disclose the amount of the investment.

TawKon has developed an application that measures radiation emitted by a mobile device and warns the user in real time if they are in a low radiation zone. The user speaks normally, and application monitors the exposure level to radiation and offers suggestions on how to reduce it.

Three weeks ago, TawKon began direct sales of its application to BlackBerry owners. Earlier Apple's AppStore chain refused to carry the application for use in iPhones. TawKon has appealed to Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) to allow the application for iPhones. TawKon is also trying to get the application fitted into Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android handsets.

TASC CEO Ilan Schory said, "TawKon's application shows that, in most cases, radiation is low and use is reasonable. However, in a small number of cases, radiation reaches high values up to 150 times normal levels. The application is meant for these cases."
