MK Gafni "scared" of concentration in economy

MK Shelly Yacimovich: You're not paranoid. You really have something to fear.

"There's a very small group of people who own most of the economy. One day, the state will go out of the picture, and these families will run it, because any decision by them would shock everyone," said Knesset Finance Committee chairman MK Moshe Gafni (United Torah Judaism) today in the committee's second meeting on the issue of concentration in the economy.

"It won't be possible to control them, because these families also own the media. I'm very afraid," added Gafni.

"What is said about the future already exists in the present," said MK Haim Oron (Meretz), who initiated the discussion.

MK Shelly Yacimovich (Labor) chipped in, "You're not paranoid. You really have something to fear."

MK Miri Regev (Likud) cut short the commentary, saying, "We're not talking about crime families. This should be remembered."

Yacimovich replied, "This is worse than a crime, because in crime there is punishment, and everyone knows that we're talking about social deviance. Here, we're talking about a plague that is part of the economic and moral structure of the State of Israel, which is why it's much more serious."
