Police say Galant document a forgery

The State Prosecutor is foregoing its demand that Channel 2 News hand over the document which caused a public outcry.

The Israel Police and State Prosecutor's Office have evidence that the Galant document is a forgery, and that the claims of Eyal Arad are true. The Police also know who sent the document to Channel 2 News, the State Prosecutor informed the Central District Court today.

The State Prosecutor added that is foregoing its demand that Channel 2 News hand over the copy of the document on which reporters Amnon Avramovich and Ronny Daniel based their story which caused a public outcry.

"The Police investigation into the suspected forgery, which was published by Channel 2 News, is continuing. At this stage it can be stated that evidentiary grounds have been found for the complaint by Eyal Arad," said State Prosecutor in a statement to the court. "At this time, the investigators have obtained a number of versions of the forged document, from various sources. One of the documents obtained by the Police, according to the evidence in its possession, is the document which was subsequently photocopied, a copy of which was the document that was published."

The statement by the State Prosecutor renders unnecessary the legal proceedings concerning the transfer of the document, which bears the logo of Arad Communications Ltd. The document proposes ways to achieve the promotion of GOC Southern Command Maj.-Gen. Yoav Galant to IDF Chief of Staff, and caused an uproar.
