Arkia Airlines Ltd. today launched its "Arkia Express" program - Israel's first low-cost service. The service was launched with one-way fares to Paris and Amsterdam, beginning at $99 for a reservation purchased online three months in advance. Arkia has promised to set aside 1,200 one-way tickets a week for the low-cost fares.
The one-way fare will rise to $129, then $149 and $169 as seats run out. As a low-cost service, Arkia Express offers no food or beverages, seat selection, or luggage handling, for which extra charges will apply. A 15-kg. suitcase will cost an extra $15 if ordered online together with the reservation, or $30 at the check-in counter.
The tickets will offered for flights departing Israel beginning on November 2. Online sales will begin tomorrow.
With the international launch of Arkia Express, Arkia becomes the only Israeli airline offering low-cost service to Paris and Amsterdam. The low-cost flights will operate alongside the airline's regular service to these destinations.
