Unemployment drop continues

The current rate of 6.2% is only slightly above the record low of June-July 2008.

The positive trend of falling unemployment continued in the economy in July. The unemployment rate fell to 6.2% in July, from 6.3% in May and June, and from 6.5% in April.

The July figure is based on preliminary monthly trend data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics.

The unemployment rate is at its lowest level since September, 2008. The current number is not that much higher than the record low 5.9% of June and July 2008.

Recently published quarterly figures showed that second quarter unemployment was 6.2%. However, there was also a rise in the number of workers who are involuntarily employed part time, meaning they were seeking full time work but did not find it. There was also a drop in the number of full time workers.
