Infrastructures minister seeks to cut gasoline prices

Ministry sources told "Globes" that a NIS 0.07-0.08 per liter reduction in the marketing margin was still substantial for consumers

Minister of National Infrastructures Uzi Landau today instructed Fuel Supervisor Chen Bar-Yosef to complete a study on the marketing margins of Israel's fuel companies, and submit interim recommendations within two weeks, and final recommendations within ten weeks. The study began a year ago.

Landau told Bar-Yosef that it was important to see whether it was possible to help the public by reducing the company's marketing margin. Ministry sources told "Globes" that a NIS 0.07-0.08 per liter reduction in the marketing margin was still substantial for consumers. The fuel companies' marketing margin is currently set at 10% of the government-mandated price of gasoline, or currently NIS 0.71 per liter.
