Finance Committee approves extra $260m for Defense Ministry

This sum is above and beyond the budget supplement of NIS 700 million that was approved in February.

The Ministry of Defense is set to receive an additional NIS 260 million after the Knesset Finance Committee approved the budget supplement today. This sum is above and beyond the supplement of NIS 700 million that was approved in February.

The original defense budget in the State's 2011-2012 biennial budget amounted to NIS 54 billion, the largest amount allocated to any government ministry.

The Ministry of Finance declined to comment on the matter. The Ministry of Defense said, The Ministry of Defense wishes to make it clear that it did not ask for the additional budget or even one more shekel. We regret that while there is fighting in the south treasury officials are engaged in intrigue and squabbling that does not help the combat effort to defend the residents of the south. "
