Tel Aviv-Rishon LeZion rail link to open next month

Travel time between Tel Aviv and Rishon LeZion will take 18 minutes.

Israel Railways will inaugurate the new Tel Aviv-Rishon LeZion line, which runs along the Ayalon Highway, on September 24, Minister of Transport Israel Katz announced today. Travel time between Tel Aviv and Holon-Bat Yam will take 10 minutes and it will take 18 minutes to Rishon LeZion.

The line will continue to Ashdod. The Yavne station will open in January 2012, and when the line is completed in early 2013, it will cut travel time between Ashdod and Tel Aviv to 35 minutes.

Katz also said that the double track between Tel Aviv and Beersheva would be completed within six months, cutting travel time between the cities to 50 minutes, and travel time between Tel Aviv and Kiryat Gat to 35 minutes. The double track to Kfar Saba will be completed in May 2012, cutting travel time to Tel Aviv to 25 minutes.

The West Negev line, running from Beersheva through Ofakim and Sderot to Ashkelon, where it will link with the current line, will be completed in 2014-15.
