Rothschild team holds first meeting

Manuel Trajtenberg: This committee is different from other committees because of need for social sensitivity.

The Rothschild team chaired by Prof. Manuel Trajtenberg held its first meeting today. "This is an exciting event," he said at the start of the meeting.

"Today is one of the toughest days in the Hebrew calendar [Tisha B'Av, which commemorates the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem], but the transition from destruction also marks a new beginning for Jewish people. I hope that the start of the team's work today marks the start of a new and better future," said Trajtenberg.

"This wave of protests is a genuine call for social justice. The change depends on our ability to listen, and to translate the public's whispers into a language of professional understanding and the language of practical policy. This is not easy to do, but we must do it. I am thrilled by this rare opportunity to carry out change for the better in our dear country, and we have no choice but to succeed in our task.

Trajtenberg concluded, "This committee is different from other committees because of need for social sensitivity. The team members were chosen for their combination of expertise and social sensitivity."
