Barak warns against defense cuts to soothe social protesters

"The protest is important and exciting, but we're not Switzerland. We need security because we're in stormy waters."

"The protest is important and exciting, but we're not Switzerland. We need security because we're in stormy waters," said Minister of Defense Ehud Barak during a tour of an Israel Navy base. His remarks imply that there will be no cut to the defense budget to pay for a solution to Israel's social distress.

Commenting on plans for September, when the UN is due to vote on an independent Palestinian state, Barak added, "You can never be ready for every scenario. There are thorough preparations and coordination with the defense forces."
