Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) is readying its network for 4G. The mobile carrier has published a tender for the upgrade of 800 cellular sites. Nokia Siemens Networks and Ericsson AB (NYSE: SAX: ERIC) are bidding in the tender. The tender follows a previous tender for the upgrade of 600 cellular sites won by Nokia Siemens.
The cellular sites are being upgraded to handle LTE 4G technology, for when Cellcom receives the necessary frequencies. Orange franchisee Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) is already readying its network for 4G with Ericsson.
