Bezeq to launch 1st fiber optic network test

The telecom provider will launch it first test to hook up private customers to its fiber optic network in Petah Tikva's Em Hamoshava neighborhood.

Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) will launch its first test to hook up private customers to its fiber optic network in Petah Tikva's Em Hamoshava neighborhood, Bezeq CEO Avi Gabbay announced at the Bezeq Expresso conference today. The new network will give customers access speeds of up to 1 gigabyte per second (Gbps).

Gabbay added that Bezeq would deploy many more communications cabinets close to customers in order to provide faster speeds. He added that he hopes that 2012 would be the breakthrough year for TV over the internet, and that Bezeq would be happy to supply the necessary infrastructure. He also said that internet prices were falling and that Bezeq would continue cutting prices.

Gabbay said that Bezeq's next-generation network (NGN) had reached 85% nationwide deployment, including in the periphery. He called this a world-class achievement, as no company had achieved universal deployment within 3.5 years.
