2 Israeli cos in TechCrunch Disrupt New York

Stevie and CallApp are in the running for the best start-up.

Two Israeli companies are in the running for the best start-up in the TechCrunch Disrupt New York, now underway. Stevie, founded by chief creative technologist Gil Rimon and CEO Yael Givon, has developed a social television platform which collates data from users' Facebook accounts and presents it on a TV screen; and CallApp, founded by CEO Oded Volovitz, Amit On, and Tommy Seinfeld, which is developing a mobile app that manages all a user's contact people and links them to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social services to provide a complete picture of the person.

Israeli companies have made a very respectable showing at previous TechCrunch Disrupt events. Shaker won first prize at the previous event in San Francisco, in September, for its Facebook virtual communications platform. Farmigo and Tonarawere finalists.

In May 2010, Soluto Ltd. won the event for its PC and internet browser problem-solving solutions for frustrated users, and Superfly was a finalist in the September 2010 event for its online frequent flyers and car rental management application, although it did not win first place.

Five Israeli companies participated in the May 2011 TechCrunch Disrupt event: BillGuard Ltd., which warns users about incorrect credit card charges, which won second place; Do@ (Everything.me), enables searches among applications; Deja, which is developing an iPod application to facilitate video content consumption from different internet sources; MotherKnows Ltd., which collects and presents pediatric information; and SHL Telemedicine Ltd. (SHLTN), which provides remote EKG measuring.
