3 bids for Road 1 Neve Ilan interchange tender

The tender for the Jerusalem Tel Aviv highway section between Shoresh and Ein Hemed is based on the time-cost method.

Shafir Civil and Marine Engineering Ltd., Gili and Yoel Azaria Ltd., and Eyal Sela 1991 Ltd. have filed bids to build the Neve Ilan Interchange on Road 1, the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem highway. This is the second tender for the widening of the road published by Israel National Roads Company Ltd..

The tender for the section of the road between Shoresh and Ein Hemed is based on the time-cost method, in which the bidders are competing on both the lowest price and the shortest time to complete the work. The government wants to minimize disruptions to the public during the work. The tender is for widening the road to add a third lane in each direction along the 4.5-kilometer stretch, add wide margins and lighting, build a new interchange at Neve Ilan, and rebuild the Shoresh interchange.

The upgrade of Road 1 is due to begin later this year and take four years to complete.

The Roads Company awarded the first tender for the project to Mordechai Binyamin & Sons Ltd., for the straightening and widening of the stretch of road between Shaar Hagai and Shoresh, last week. Work will begin later this year.

The estimated cost of rebuilding the 16-kilometer stretch of Road 1 between Shaar Hagai, the pass at the entrance to the Judean Hills, and Jerusalem is NIS 2.5 billion. The project includes raising the road bed in the Shaar Hagai pass, and the construction of new overpasses, tunnels, and interchanges.
