IAI awarded $40m Defense Ministry navigation system deal

The Modular Azimuth Position System (TMAPS) system will be deployed on the IDF's M109 Self Propelled Guns.

Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI) (TASE: ARSP.B1) will supply its TAMAM division Modular Azimuth Position System (TMAPS) to the Israel's Ministry of Defense. The system will be deployed on the M109 Self Propelled Guns of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). IAI said that the the multi-year contract potential totals $40 million.

The inertial navigation system provides position, laying, heading and orientation data. The TMAPS is suitable for various types of platforms such as self-propelled guns, towed guns, artillery radars, rocket launchers, mortars, observation vehicles and other kinds of vehicles, in different battlefield scenarios. Based on TAMAM's Ring Laser Gyro (RLG), IAI claims that the TMAPS is the most cost-effective advanced inertial navigation system available, and can operate in GPS-disturbed or jammed battlefield scenarios. IAI TAMAM Division acting general manager David Dina said, "The TMAPS is a part of TAMAM's advanced line of successful land navigation systems, and we are proud that the Israeli Ministry of Defense has chosen our system for the M109 Self Propelled Guns of the Israel Defense Forces."
