Ramat Gan mayor indicted for bribery

Zvi Bar is charged with taking NIS 2 million in bribes, money laundering, forgery, fraud, breach of trust, and obstruction of justice.

The State Prosecutor's Economics Department today indicted Ramat Gan Mayor Zvi Bar in the Tel Aviv District Court. Bar is charged with taking NIS 2 million in bribes, money laundering, forgery, fraud, breach of trust, and obstruction of justice.

The prosecutor charges that in 2003-08, Bar in his capacity as mayor, accepted bribes from real estate developers for several projects. Bar has served as Ramat Gan's mayor for 23 years.

Indictments were also filed against developers for bribing officials to promote real estate projects and money laundering. Indictments were filed against Haim Geyer, who owns the Andromeda and Napoleon Hill projects; David Levy, the owner of the Hillcrest project; and Shaul Lagziel.

Zvi Bar denies the charges.
