IDF to deploy 2nd Iron Dome battery in north

The battery, in addition to the battery in Haifa, is part of the security alert in view of the expected US strike on Syria.

The IDF will shortly deploy a second Iron Dome battery in the north, in addition to the battery in Haifa, as part of the security alert in view of the expected US strike on Syria. In addition, reports in Lebanon claim sorties by Israel Air Force planes over southern Lebanon.

The security cabinet met this morning to discuss the situation. Home Front Defense Minister Gilad Erdan will hold a special meeting this afternoon with IDF Home Front Command officers and emergency services officials. The defense establishment has been preparing for a possible firing against Israel from Syria.

However, defense officials believe that a US strike against Syria will be coordinated with Israel, to provide Israel with enough time to prepare its residents. Officials doubt that Assad's army will open a front against Israel in the event of a US strike.

"Developments around the events in Syria and their significance, is led by the US with a broad coalition that includes other countries in the Middle East," said IDF spokesman Brig.-Gen. Yoav Mordechai. "As needed, the IDF is constantly reviewing, monitoring, and watching developments." He added that the Home Front Command knows its job and is ready to provide whatever response is needed by the population. Therefore, there is no reason to alter daily routines. "Any change in instructions will be issued only if needed and sent to every resident by the most widespread means for the distribution of information," he said.
