65% of Israelis took vacation abroad in 2013

More and more Israelis are booking their vacations via the Internet.

65% of Israelis took a vacation abroad in 2013 while 77% of Israelis took a vacation within the country, according to a survey by the Israel Travel Agents and Tourism Association ahead of its annual conference next week.

The survey also found that 75% of those who traveled abroad booked their flights through a travel agency (either by visiting their offices or via the agency's website), while 15% booked via an airline's website and 7% booked via an international website.

Those vacationing in Israel are also using websites to book. The survey found that 5% of Israelis vacationing in Israel booked the vacation on an international website.

The Association CEO Yossi Fatal said that this trend of booking via the Internet is expected to increase in 2014. Fatal warned vacationers to be wary of the fact that Internet sites do not include VAT in the prices presented.

The survey also found that 26% of vacationers use cellular apps to plan their trips abroad, and 50% are assisted by cellular apps when abroad.
