Former Hadassah CEO denies receiving bonuses

"Yediot Ahronot": The deficit grew to NIS 850 million under Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef.

Former Hadassah Medical Center CEO Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef denies today's report by Hebrew daily "Yediot Ahronot" reports that he was paid NIS 1.8 million in bonuses during his tenure at the hospital. "They forgot to mention one thing - I never took the bonuses… Look at my retirement agreement and see," he told the Knesset Finance Committee during a discussion on the National Insurance Institute. Mor-Yosef was appointed director general of National Insurance after leaving Hadassah.

"Yediot Ahronot" reports that former Hadassah Medical Center CEO Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef received NIS 1.8 million in bonuses during his tenure for "appreciation for his work as manager."

"Yediot Ahronot" says that Hadassah accumulated a deficit of NIS 850 million during Mor-Yosef's term as the hospital's CEO in 2001-11. Nonetheless, this did not prevent Hadassah's management from awarding him extravagant bonuses and benefits.

Documents obtained by "Yediot Ahronot" show that Mor-Yosef received a bonus of four monthly salaries, amounting to NIS 350,000, in April 2006; bonuses totaling NIS 480,000 in 2006-07; and a bonus of NIS 280,000 before he left the hospital.

"I have not managed Hadassah for three years, but all of a sudden everyone claims to be surprised by the crisis and they are seeking the old captain," said Mor-Yosef, adding, "I brought Hadassah to new heights during my tenure, and I was an outstanding manager. I was a partner in more than NIS 1.5 billion in fundraising. The reports against me are tendentious."

Mor-Yosef added that he warned about Hadassah's condition years ago, saying, "In 2008, I met the then-prime minister, the chairwoman of Hadassah Women's Zionist Organization of America, and the heads of the Ministry of Finance to warn them of the situation. The only result was a short-term fix. In the past three years, as Hadassah's condition deteriorated, nothing was done, and now everyone is engaged in a witch-hunt against me, against Hadassah's management, against the workers, and against the doctors, who are innocent of any wrongdoing."
