The former IDF chief-of-staff is being questioned in the Boaz Harpaz case.

Former IDF chief-of-staff Lt.-Gen. (res.) Gabi Ashkenazi is being questioned under caution by the Israel Police National Fraud Unit on suspicion of breach of trust, obstructing an investigation, and giving information to an unauthorized party in the Boaz Harpaz case.

In August 2013, Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein ordered an expansion of the IDF investigation into the Harpaz-Ashkenazi case, and he ordered the Police to investigate the persons involved. "There are reasonable grounds for suspicion," against Ashkenazi and his former aide, Col. Erez Weiner, he said at the time.

The Ministry of Justice statement did not name the suspects being questions, saying only, "There is suspicion of violations of criminal law."

Weinstein made the decision after receiving new material collected by the Military Police. His office discussed the legal aspects of this material for a long time.
