Lapid overtakes Netanyahu in latest poll

A poll by Mina Zemach for Channel 2 found that Yesh Atid would win 24 mandates and the Likud 22, if elections were held in Israel today.

Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid could be on the way to becoming Israel's next prime minister according to the latest poll conducted by Mina Zemach's Midgam Research Institute for Channel 2 news. According to the poll, if elections were held now, Lapid's Yesh Atid would win 24 Knesset mandates (up from 11 in the current Knesset) while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud would win only 22 mandates (down from 30). Former journalist Lapid formed Yesh Atid five years ago and won 19 mandates in the previous Knesset and served as Minister of Finance in the government.

The poll found that Minister of Education Naftali Bennett's Habayit Hayehudi strengthened from 8 to 14 mandates while Isaac Herzog's Zionist Union (Labor) fell from 24 to just 13.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman's Yisrael Beitenu strengthens from six to 10, United Torah Judaism rises to seven from six while Shas slips to six from seven. Minister of Finance Moshe Kahlon's Kulanu falls to four from 10 and Meretz remains unchanged on five. The United Arab List would also remain unchanged on 13.
