2 killed in Tel Aviv building site collapse

Seven more construction workers are missing at the site in Ramat Hahayal where a four floor underground car park is being built.

Two people have been killed and six more are missing after the collapse of a four-floor underground car park, which is under construction, in the Tel Aviv Ramat Hahayal high-tech industrial district. Magen David Adom ambulance and first aid personnel arrived on the scene at the corner of Nachoshet and Barzel Streets within a few minutes of the event at 11.30 am.

Eleven more workers were injured including a 25 year-old with serious injuries and they were evacuated to Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.

National Fire and Rescue Spokesman Yoram Levy said that all available crews had been despatched to the scene, more than 60 firemen, with those missing buried under four stories of rubble. Levy said that the crews were moving the rubble by hand in order to get to those trapped beneath.

The affected project is a four story underground car park adjacent to Assuta Hospital being built by Danya Cebus Ltd. (TASE: DNYA). A Danya Cebus spokesman said, "During work to build the Barzel car park by Danya Cebus parts of the car park collapsed. The company is investigating the reasons the collpase and its results and repercusions. Danya Cebus and Africa-Israel Properties are making every effort to respond swiftly at the site and treat the injured from this grave incident."
