Wages rose in Israel in 2015, although not to the same extent for Jews and Arabs. Figures published today by the Central Bureau of Statistics, show that the salary gap widened considerably in 2015. Salaries among Jews are almost double those among Arabs.
The figures, taken from a Central Bureau of Statistics survey of household spending, show that the average gross monthly salary of an employee in 2015 was NIS 9,503, 2.7% higher in real terms than in 2014.
The median monthly salary of an employee was NIS 6,884, 3.4% higher in real terms than in 2014. The average gross hourly wage was NIS 55.70, 3.5% higher than in 2014. The average age of employees was 39.5, and the average number of years of education was 14.1.
The average gross monthly wage for men in the Jewish population was NIS 12,316, compared with NIS 6,564 for men in the Arab population, a 46.7% gap (the gap in 2014 was 40.0%). The average gross monthly wage for women in the Jewish population was NIS 8,011, compared with NIS 4,561 for women in the Arab population, a 43.1% gap (the gap in 2014 was 31.2%).
Larger salary gaps between men and women were found in higher education (an average salary of NIS 75.30 per hour for women, compared with an average of NIS 93.70 per hour for men), managers (NIS 79.20 per hour for women, NIS 95.20 per hour for men), engineering and other technicians (NIS 50.20 per hour for women, NIS 65.70 per hour for men), and skilled workers (NIS 29.60 per hour for women, NIS 41.40 per hour for men.
The economic sectors with the highest salaries for both men and women employees were financial and insurance services (NIS 19,557 per month for men, compared with NIS 11,886 per month for women) and information and communications (NIS 19,140 per month for men and NIS 13,140 per month for women).
